Konsep green business tidak akan pernah terlepas dengan
sustainability. Seperti yang telah dibahas sebelumnya, penerapan
konsep green business memiliki fokus pada
keberlanjutan/sustainability.
Gil Friend (2009:3) mengartikan sustainability sebagai “living and
doing business in ways that don’t erode the potential for future
generations –
commonly refers to the triple bottom line (TBL) or
economic, environmental, and social benefit”.
Dalam sustainability, dikenal istilah triple bottom line yang mencakup
3 sektor yang akan menentukan apakah organisasi melakukan praktek
berkelanjutan atau tidak.
Robert Dahlstrom (2010:7) mengemukakan bahwa “industry practice
has embraced the notion that sustainability derives from focusing on
the triple bottom line”.
Robert (2010:7) menjelaskan secara detail bahwa:
“The sustainable organization must generate acceptable
levels of economic performance, or it will not survive. It
must also nurture social performance in its interaction
with customers, suppliers, consumers, and other interest
groups. Survival is also contingent on the firm’s ability to
achieve acceptable levels of environmental performance
throughout the supply cycle from raw material
procurement to post consumption disposal.”
