Flowcharting symbols
can be divided
into the
following
four
categories (Romney & Steinbart 2006, p. 71):
1)Input/output symbols.
Formatted: Bullets and Numbering
This symbol represents devices or media that provide
input to or record output
from processing operations.
2)Processing symbols.
Formatted: Bullets and Numbering
This symbol either show what type of device is used to process data or indicate
when processing is performed manually.
3)Storage symbols.
Formatted: Bullets and Numbering
This
symbol
represents
the
device
used
to store
data
that
the
system
is
not
currently using.
4)Flow and miscellaneous symbols.
Formatted: Bullets and Numbering
This symbol indicates the flow of data and goods. It also represents such
operations
as
where
flowcharts
begin
or
end,
where
decisions
are
made,
and
when to add explanatory notes to flowcharts.
2 Further
explanation
on
various
elements of
flowcharts
will
be
described
in
Appendix
1.
This
supplementary
description
will
clearly
identify
each symbol
used in this thesis.
