2.1.1. Sejarah
Internet
Perkembangan
teknologi
yang
begitu
cepat
memungkinkan orang
untuk
berkomunikasi dan
berhubungan dengan cepat
dan
murah.
Salah
satu
teknologi
yang
mendukung
hal
ini
terjadi
adalah
teknologi Internet.
Dengan
Internet
batas
suatu
negara
dan
wilayah
seolah-olah
hilang.
Teknologi
untuk
berkomunikasi
sebenarnya
sudah
ada
dan
digunakan
sejak
lama
yaitu
sejak
ditemukannya alat
yang
disebut
telepon.
Tetapi
dengan
teknologi
Internet
orang
dapat
berkomunikasi
dengan
lebih
murah. Hal
ini karena infrastruktur jaringan
yang dibangun sudah sedemikian
luasnya
dan jaringan-jaringan tersebut sudah saling terkoneksi.
Ada
banyak
definisi
yang
muncul
berkenaan dengan
istilah
Internet
tersebut.
Berikut
definisi
yang
diberikan
oleh
Federal
Networking Council
dalam
Internet
Monthly Reports, 24 October 1995:
“The Federal Networking Council (FNC) agrees that the following language
reflects our definition of the term “Internet”.
“Internet” refers to the global information systems—
(i)
is logically linked together by a globally unique address space based on
the Internet Protocol (IP) or its subsequent extensions/follow-ons;
(ii)
is able to support communications using the Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite or its subsequent
extensions/follow-ons, and /or other IP-compatible protocols, and
(iii)
provides, uses or makes accessible, either publicly or privately, high
level services layered on the communications and related infrastructure
described herin.” (Federal Network Council, 1995).
