2.1 Theoretical Foundation
In
this
chapter, a
detail
explanation of
theories and
terms which
is
used
in
later
chapters
is
provided. Developing a
game
which
is
purposed
for
learning
Mandarin is
a
unique project.
In
order to
support
the
understanding and
development of
the
game,
the
understanding of the theories and terms is important.
2.2 Graphic Format
In
computer
graphics,
graphic
image
types
are
generally
broken
down
in
two
basic categories: Raster graphics and Vector graphics
[1]
.
Raster
graphics
is
graphic images utilized for
high
quality
images like
photography
or
images
that
are
created
with
the
combination
of
a
lot
of
variation
in
colors and
value.
This
type of
graphics is
usually used
for
high quality printing
images
like
magazines, posters,
advertising board,
etc.
Not
only
for
printing
images,
Raster
graphics also
used
in high quality
moving
images (movie and animation) like the movies
that
is
intended to
play
in
the
Cinemas.
By
specifying
the
dots of
image
information in
each
inch,
the
size
of
images
can
be
various;
the
more
dpi
in
an
image,
the
bigger
the
size, and the bigger the
memory requirements. Images with raster format usually have a
bigger size than Vector Graphics.
