Perceived Enjoyment in online fps game context may be an important motivation
that leads to the acceptance of online fps game. Perceived enjoyment attempts to
explain hedonic motivation in the acceptance of online fps game as an entertainment
medium. Previous research by (Wu & Liu, 2007), suggest that enjoyment is key that
drives users towards the acceptance of online game. Perceived enjoyment also has
been proven that hedonic value in an entertainment medium has positive influence on
users’ attitude and intention. Past studies on the acceptance of internet services (Teo,
Lim, & Lai, 1999) acknowledged perceived enjoyment as an intrinsic motivation and
intrinsic enjoyment also have been found to be a factor influencing online consumer
behavior (Koufaris, 2003). With these studies perceived enjoyment will have key
motive for playing online fps games and will influence the acceptance of online fps
games.
Perceived Economic Value is added to this research because today online gaming
market is aggressively expanding and “gold farming” which gather virtual game
credits and sells them for real currency now estimate employs 400,000 people
worldwide (Chatfield, 2009). Perceived economic value explains the utilitarian
motivation in online game acceptance. It is possible that one utilitarian purpose for
playing online games involves time, effort and returns on investment and considers
these factors in acceptance process. Past study on internet use (LaRose & Eastin,
2004) found monetary outcomes were noteworthy predictor. Economic value from
game money and items may serve as an extrinsic motivator for online fps game play.
