1.1 Background of Study
Many people think that being in prison is the end of life. They think that prison is
a place where you can face things that you never have been before, a place where hope
becomes a danger that can make people drive insane like Red says in the movie, and of
course a place where no one wants to be. Maybe it is for those who commit crime or for
those
who are actually innocent but are still imprisoned along with the chief guards or
warden themselves. They are only people who are curious of the situation in the prison.
Based on her topic, the writer chooses The Shawshank Redemption
movie which are
about life, hope, friendship and justice faced by the main character in the prison
“Shawshank”.
The Shawshank Redemption
is a movie that is adapted from a novelist
masterpiece of Stephen King. The complete title of this novel is Rita Hayworth and
Shawshank Redemption. The word “Rita Hayworth” was then omitted. Therefore, the
point of the story tells about the prisoner in Shawshank prison, Maine, United States.
Stephen Edwin King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947. He was
the second son of
Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. He attended the grammar school in Durham and
Lisbon Falls High School then graduated in 1966. At the University of Maine, Orono, he
