1.1.1 Globalization and International Trades
Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies,
and
governments
of
different
nations,
a
process driven by international trade and
investment
and
aided
by
information technology (Globalization101.org).With
globalization, consumers around the world can enjoy products and services
from
different countries around the world. Indonesian consumers can buy products not only
from Indonesia but
many other products
from other countries. Here in Indonesia, we can
have
Shiseido
cosmetics
originated
from
Japan,
Blackberry
smart
phones
originated
from Canada,
Apple
iPod originated
from
US, French
wines, Oranges
from China, and
many other foreign products.
Aside
from importing
foreign
products,
Indonesian
goods
are
also
exported
and
being
sold in many countries worldwide. Indomie goreng for instance, one of the best selling
Indonesian
instant noodle, can be
found as
near as Singapore and as
far as
United States
of America. Sinar Mas Group, one of the
worlds leading pulp and paper companies,
exports
around
20%
of
its
total
production to
different
countries
around
the
world
including China, India, and Europe (Nonto, 2010).
