Communication
is a basic daily activity
in
humanity,
it connects one
to another
in society or wherever people are. Recently, there are internet users communicate
with
instant
messaging
because
it’s
considered
cheaper
and
saving
time
compared to phone call or text messaging. Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger
Google
talk,
and
ICQ
are the
examples
of
most
popular
instant
messaging
nowadays. A survey conducted by Microsoft in South East Asia stated that
instant messaging has become a new genre in communicating as well as lifestyle.
Instant messaging has been used for almost all life aspects such as
communicating with colleagues, gossiping, dating, and having an appointment.
According to an employee in a company, typing in IM is more efficient
compared
to
sending
e-mail
or
picking up the phone. IM also enables sending
documents and conducting visual discussion that impossibly conducted face-to-
face. However, IM somehow can lead to negativity. Some people often become a
victim of
cyber
crime
because
they easily
accept
and
share
their
personal
information to unknown people whom they just met on cyber world.
