CHAPTER 2
THEORETICAL FOUNDATION
2.1 Theoretical Foundation
2.1.1 Security
Security is a way to prevent people from reading, changing or using the information
stored
in
a
computer
which
is
not
meant to be changed by
unauthorized person. Almost
all computer based security implements data encryption or password [1].
2.1.1.2 Authentication
Authentication is a mechanism or process that associates a particular person’s identity
with
a
statement,
action,
or
event.
In
a
computer
system
it
verifies
that internal user
identification is correctly associated with its owner [2].
There are 2 most important capabilities regarding authentication; the ability to store a
high-quality
cryptographic
key
and
the
ability
to
perform
cryptographic
operation.
A
high
quality
key:
a
secret
chosen
from
a
very
large
space
so
that
it
is
computationally
infeasible to guess the guess by exhaustive search [3].
