Hand Geometry
Hand
geometry
technology
uses special readers that sense a
users
finger size,
thickness
and palm geometry. These hand geometry readers try to detect the image on three
dimensions. Other technique approaches on the features like knuckles and other joints in
order to construct uniq ue pattern for each person [2].
In order to enroll or authenticate using the hand geometry technology, user places hand
with palm
facing down. A
metal surface with
five guidance pegs
is commonly use [11].
The
user
hand condition
is the
major
factor that affects the performance of hand
geometry technology. Jewelry, change in weight, bandages and swelling of joints could
make the hand geometry technology fail to authenticate legitimate user [10].
Currently
the
hand
geometry
technology
systems
are
manufactured
commercially
by
Recognition Systems, Inc [2].
Retina-Scan
Retina
scanning
relies
on
the
uniqueness
of
the
patterns
made
by
blood
vessels
at
the
back of the eye known as the retina (G. Lawton, Biometrics: A New Era in Security,
IEEE
computer
pp.16,
1998).
Although
this
technology
is
among
the
most
accurate
of
all biometric technologies, some users find the process uncomfortable and even
threatening, provided the fact that the process cannot damage the eye [2].
