Client/Server
architecture
is
one
of
the
many
solutions in implementing a system in
which the information system layers are distributed between client personal computer and
several servers.
2.1.6.1 Definition of LAN
A local
area
network
(LAN),
according
to
Stallings
[2],
consists
of
a
shared
transmission medium either through cable or wireless connections over relatively short
distances and a
set of hardware and software for interfacing devices to the medium and
regulating the orderly access to the medium.
2.1.6.2 LAN Architecture
The architecture of LAN is best described in terms of layering protocols that organize
the basic functions of a LAN. OSI layer consists of 7 layers such as: physical, data link,
network, transport, session, presentation, and application. The Figure below shows 7 OSI
layers and its protocol data unit.
