Toe, a simple game uses symbol of O and X whoever get all three Os in a
row wins whether it is vertical, horizontal and diagonally using a mechanical
telephone dialer as the control to place the symbol of Os and Xs. This game
program was invented by Alexander S. Douglas in 1952 for the EDSAC a computer
that was first build in 1949 at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Using
tanks display 35 x 16 pixel screen as the display the game is considered as the first
real graphical computer game but because EDSAC computer is only available at the
University, the game never got outside of the University (Winter.D, 2013).
Video games today look and play very different than video games in the past, as the
immense growth of information system open up new types of video games where in
the past limitation of technology hinder the growth of games. Games today came
with different varieties of platforms from arcades to PCs to console based, online
games and mobile or portable devices.
The growth of video game industry also sprouts arrays of different genres from
action, adventure, role-playing, sports, shooter, strategy even life like simulations.
Seen in Figure 2.1 is the statistic for the best-selling Video game genres in 2012.
