and his wifes lover and is sentenced to life imprisonment. The first year in the prison is
the hardest time for him because he needs to adapt with new place, new people, and
everything. He also faces many things that he has never gotten before. In the outside, he
is such a rich and an honor man in his office. He can do what he wants, but everything
changes when he convicted wrong of killing his wife and his wife lover. The worst thing
is he sentenced of life imprisonment. Believe it or not, he can survive from those
obstacles because he has hope in himself.
The writer chooses this movie because it presents about the basic human needs
that people must have in the real life. It is the same as the main character in this movie,
Andy Dufresne. He struggles to fulfill his basic needs in the prison because life in prison
is not the same as real life. Prison has different rules unlike in the outside. In normal life,
People can eat what they want to eat, they can eat whenever they want to, but it becomes
different in prison. Prison has its rules and prisoners need to obey their rules. They
cannot eat when they want to, they cannot choose what they want to eat because prison
has determined everything for them. In the prison, at first people do not know each other.
Bullying is very often to happen in prison. Actually, this thing happens to people who are
new in the prison. It is the same case as Andy Dufresne because in the first year he came
to Shawshank prison he had struggled to fight against the queer sisters who bully and
sodomize him. So here, the writer will analyze how Andy Dufresne can fulfill his basic
needs in the prison.
The aim of the writer is to review the main characters self actualization using
hierarchy needs of Maslow, but
to achieve self-actualization needs, people must pass
through other needs, such as physiological needs, safety needs, love and belongingness
