use of
Facebook

holds
many drawbacks
in spite of
its
many
benefits. Sometimes Facebook users tend to over-share their personal
information
by
allowing
others
to
see
sensitive
data
such as
e-mail,
address,
mobile number and other crucial information that actually, should not be shared.
In
many
instances,
the
sensitive
information provided can be used to perform
criminal or illegal activities against the user.
One
example
of
the
many
negative
situations that have occurred involves a
teenage girl who ran away for a few days during her family’s trip to Jakarta. The
reason she
ran away was to
meet and be
with a
teenage boy
whom she only
met
online recently on Facebook. Confused, frightened, and unaware of the situation,
the
girl’s
parents
called
the
local
authorities (police),
to
investigate
their
daughter’s unexpected disappearance.
Another negative aspect of facebook is
caused by a feature known as photo tagging. It
is an application provided by
facebook to
label an
individual or
groups
in photographs. The problem with this
application is that it can be misused by a person who is listed as your friend. Any
individual in that user’s friends list can freely tag them in a photo whether or not
it is truthful or misleading.
