THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
2.1
Introduction
There are theories used in this chapter. Marxism theory by Karl Marx is
needed
to criticize
and to support the analysis of the novel. The theory will
criticize
the
definition of materiality
and study the impact of materiality to
society especially to children. There is also character and characterization theory
used to explain the characters from the novel and the behavior of the characters
to the problem of the character. Both theories are used to explain Hucks struggle
when he did his adventure and also survived from adults bad treatment to him
because of materiality.
2.2
Character and Characterization
Character and characterization in the novel are important part since the
novel was written. Character has feeling, emotion, behavior, and mind. Every
character has different personality and identity. There are some theories and
definition about character and characterization.
2.2.1
Character
Character is the person created by the author when writing a novel, play,
or any work. Character is a figure that acts and takes part in the novel in order to
create the story. Character is revealed by how a character responds the conflict
through the dialogue and descriptions. According to Abrams (2012, p.46) the
