Marxism is a philosophy about materiality that tried to explain
belongings without pay attention to the world condition, power and anything
around people such as natural and society where they live in. As a further study
about materiality, Marxism
tried to explain the relation between the economical
things and human nature without seeing the problem outside the human itself.
People would not care with what happened outside their life and prioritized the
material only for themselves.
The priority of materiality has existed until now because of class struggle
in society. Materiality is not only about money or property but also power, food,
status and position. This assumption comes from natural world and society
around people’s life. People will create their own mind by comparing their life to
other people and if it is related to material, they will struggle until they have it.
“Marxism theories are then distinguished from other approaches in the way in
which they prioritize the materiality of culture, the way in which it is produced,
distributed and received as a concrete and social practice.” (Wolfreys, 2001,
p.69)
The theory of materiality is different from other approaches because it
prioritizes the culture of wealth, the production and distribution as the result and
social practice. In other words, people should work as a producer or a distributor.
They used it as knowledge from the culture which had been derived from the
people who lived before them. From the culture, it produced some classes and
social status which divided people to several parts.
