“Scones are believed to have originated in Scotland. Originally they
were made from oats, shaped into a large round called a ‘bannock’,
scored into four to six triangles known as scones, and cooked on a griddle
either over an open fire or on top of the stove.
The origin of the name ‘scones’ is unclear, with sources suggesting
it may link to the Stone (Scones) of Destiny where Kings of Scotland were
crowned. Others believe the name is derived from the Dutch word
“schoonbrood” (“schoon” meaning clean and “brood” meaning bread),
or from the German word “schonbrot” meaning ‘fine or beautiful
bread’.” (Baking Industry Research Trust, 2010)
Menurut penelitian Baking Industry Research Trust (2010), “Scones
diyakini berasal dari Skotlandia. Awalnya scones
terbuat dari gandum,
dibentuk menjadi bulat besar disebut 'bannock', dicetak
menjadi 4-6
segitiga yang dikenal sebagai scones, dan dimasak di atas wajan maupun
di atas nyala api atau di atas kompor.
Asal usul nama 'scones' tidak jelas, dengan sumber yang menyatakan
mungkin ada hubungannya dengan Stone of Destiny
di mana raja-raja
Skotlandia itu dinobatkan. Orang lain percaya bahwa nama ini berasal dari
kata Belanda
"Schoonbrood" ("schoon" yang berarti
