2.1.2 Local Area Network
Local
Area
Network
(LAN)
is
commonly
known
as
an
interconnecting
network
in a
small area, such like
in organization, which
is connected to the external
network. In
the other
hand, Wide
Area
Network (WAN or
Metropolitan Area Network)
is
a
broader
association of networks that can be used over
very large geographic areas or very distant
areas,
where
each
of
the
networks
is
linked
through routers. LAN
was
specifically
designed as
a
media
to
interconnect network
hardware and
software of
companies each
other.
It
was
meant
for
a
solution
to
overcome
incompatibility and
connection
issues
of
different
machines
and
specifications to
communicate each
other.
Hence,
data
communication
to
exchange
data
from
source
to
destination
can
be
done
by
attaching
interconnecting devices
in
the
LAN
or
WAN.
Different
network
addresses
basically are
linked
each
other
by
routers.
Router
is
a
special
device
that
connects
two
or
more
diverse
networks.
It
requires
at
least
two
network
interface
layers
or
link
layers
to
connect networks and forward datagram.
