Positive Politeness
According to Brown and Levinson (1978), positive politeness is oriented
toward the positive face of the speaker (the positive self image that the speaker claims
for himself) of the speaker (p. 70). Brown and Levinson (1978) also added that,
“positive-politeness utterances are used as a kind of metaphorical extension of
intimacy…” (p. 103). It means

wants to minimize the distance between him and the hearer.
